The sand cat, also known as the sand dune cat, is the only cat living chiefly in true deserts. This small cat is widely distributed in the sandy and stony deserts of North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. It lives in burrows made by other animals. Its diet is known to include small rodents such as gerbils and jerboas, insects, reptiles, including venomous snakes, and birds.
